Originally founded in 1904 by a Russian immigrant, LAZ had its start building horseless carriages.

However, it wasn’t until 1927 that LAZ began producing luxury cars. The company went on to produce several notable automobiles—including some early racing vehicles—before going out of business in 1950.

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (3)

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (4)

Though relatively new to Ford’s list of car names, Navigator has been a popular name for luxury SUVs for years.

The Navigator was first manufactured by Lincoln in 1993 and sold until 2002 when it was discontinued.

In 2007, Ford released its own version of the vehicle and named it after one of its most luxurious models.

This car features plenty of leather, two rows, and three doors along with room enough to fit eight passengers comfortably. Navigators are perfect family cars that offer comfort as well as plenty of speed.

Lexington

One of Lexus’ best-selling models, it’s a midsize vehicle. The Lexus IS 250 and 350 are considered some of their more popular models. They feature an 8-speed automatic transmission and are powered by 4-cylinder engines.

This company also makes what might be one of the most luxurious sedans ever built—the LS 460 L.

It features 22-way adjustable front seats and a 13-speaker sound system with crystal clear sound quality thanks to TruNote technology developed by Lexus engineers.

Other luxury car manufacturers include Acura, Lincoln, Jaguar, BMW, and Mercedes Benz, but none can compare to Lexus when it comes to style and quality.

Libelle

Remember how we just said l stands for luxury? There’s a car on our list of car names that starts with l (Libelle) and it fits right in.

Originally manufactured by German automaker Austro-Daimler, Libelle was actually one of their most successful vehicles. In Germany, it was also known as the sports car with a golden dragon.

Back in 1899, many new cars had just three gears—1st gear was used to get started from a stop or to move off if there was too much inertia.

2nd gear accelerated up to 12 km/h and 3rd would take you up to 18 km/h—getting you going at what we would today call highway speeds!

Lancia

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (5)

There are many car brand names that start with l, but few brands have been around longer than Lancia.

With production going back to 1906 and its now-famous trident logo being registered as a trademark in 1913, Lancia has spent a long time building up a reputation as an automotive icon.

The earliest models were primarily cars designed and built by Fiat, but it soon became evident that there was plenty of room for another brand in Italy’s automotive industry.

Lanchester

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (6)

Some car names just jump out and say luxury, and one of those is without a doubt, Lanchester.

This British marque was around from 1907 to 1935 and only produced a couple of hundred cars in total—but they were among some of Britain’s finest vehicles at the time.

It went under just before World War II, but was revived later on. In short, if you want a name associated with very fine craftsmanship (and one letter away from alliteration), look no further than Lanchester.

Lifan Group

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (7)

Lifan (spelled Lifan in Chinese characters) originally stands for Linjiazhuang Fanzhan Gongsi which literally means Linjiazhuang Motor Vehicle Factory.

This company was established in 1976 and started out producing four-wheel vehicles, making it one of China’s earliest privately owned automakers. The Lifan 520 SUV and its successors have been quite popular in China’s domestic market as well as exports to other developing countries such as Indonesia and Kenya.

These models offer a combination of low cost, decent fuel economy, SUV styling, and off-road capabilities making them, especially appealing to buyers looking to get more bang for their buck.

The higher-end 540 comes with features like ABS brakes, electrically adjustable front seats, a rear entertainment system, and even automatic parking technology.

LIAZ

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (8)

Whether you like them or not, SUVs are one of the fastest-growing segments in car sales—but if you’re looking for something a little less conspicuous, check out LIAZ.

The Czech-based company produces medium-sized luxury cars that offer everything SUVs do without some of their bulkier features.

The lightweight and low center of gravity mean they handle like sports cars and look nothing like your typical oversized rig.

Oh, and did we mention they have Mercedes underpinnings? You might not be able to get them in America just yet, but if you’re feeling adventurous, it may be worth checking out what Europe has to offer. It won’t cost much more than getting a rental car anyway.

Lada

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (9)

In 1962, Chrysler debuted a brand new model as a response to America’s fascination with compact European vehicles. Produced by Italian manufacturer Fiat, Chrysler’s sedan and wagon were originally sold as a captive import car in select regions of Canada.

However, many owners fell in love with it and imported it into the United States. As time went on, manufacturing became more cost-effective and eventually American automaker AMC began building them at home starting in 1975.

Some cars’ names that start with l include Lada and LeCar (which you probably don’t remember).

Laraki

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (10)

The Laraki brand of sports cars was created in 2009 by custom car builders Frank and Lorenzo Lamborghini (not related to Ferruccio).

The company was an exclusive boutique automobile manufacturer, headquartered in Dubai.

While Laraki’s production numbers are small and many models are commissioned, they have expanded their lineup to include other marques including Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche.

What do you know about these vehicles? Which other luxury car brands should be added to their list?

Lotus Evora 400 (L)

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (11)

The Lotus Evora 400 may be an affordable supercar, but it’s a car that remains true to its sporty roots. Its 400-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine pushes it from 0 to 60 in just 4.1 seconds, and on up to a top speed of 183 miles per hour.

It’s not lightweight either; weighing in at roughly 3,000 pounds, you won’t want to race through narrow city streets (the back end is also quite wide). The Evora 400 will be available in the summer of 2015 and cost approximately $110,000.

Lister

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (12)

Starting its life as a commercial vehicle, Aston Martin’s James Bond-inspired model has been re-engineered as a classic luxury car.

The brand’s second model to bear its famous name, it boasts one of its most powerful and expensive engines ever. With a top speed of over 200 mph, it reaches 60 in less than four seconds—and yet delivers over 30 mpg on highways.

It comes complete with premium leather seats and mahogany trim throughout. And it also has plenty of history behind it.

As much an homage to Aston Martin founder Lionel Martin as an acknowledgment of his son who tragically died in World War I at 22 years old, it was designed to be powered by two V12 engines—one from each father and son pair, respectively.

Lyons-Knight

Although not a new car, The Lyons-Knight was one of the great cars from GM’s golden era. Built by Buick from 1949 through 1954, it was initially available as a 4-door sedan and 2-door coupe.

A 6-passenger wagon version followed in 1950 and a convertible in 1952.

The name Lyons derives from Detroit neighbor William E. Lamont’s company General Motors of Canada Ltd., which actually built all of its examples at their plant in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada under license to build GM vehicles.

Lloyd

A car by itself isn’t enough to make someone an expert. The same goes for selecting a name.

When it comes to selecting names, you’re often left in an either/or scenario, forced to choose between two equally appealing options.

But when you start looking into specific criteria, like luxury or performance, you can avoid that dilemma and select names that fulfill multiple goals at once.

And since luxury is generally one of the first things on buyers’ minds when shopping for a car, we put together a list of ten letters representing some high-end models to get your naming gears turning. What are some other car names starting with L? Let us know in the comments below!

LML

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (14)

The Lykan Hypersport from W Motors, which starts at around $3.4 million USD and has a top speed of 245 mph, doesn’t look like anything else on Earth.

A Lebanese entrepreneur helped develop it, while a crew of designers who worked at Pininfarina (yes, THAT Pininfarina) fashioned its body.

Lykan translates to the wolf in Arabic—though there’s nothing fearsome about how luxurious it looks or feels when you sit inside.

The Hypersport is packed with amenities such as diamond-coated titanium switches and speakers made from mother of pearl and Italian leather—and yes, it even has four seasons seat heaters.

Latvija

The official language is Latvian; Russian also enjoys co-official status in some parts of Latvia.

LaFayette

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (17)

In 1925, Walter Chrysler purchased Dodge Brothers. He named it after one of his mentors at General Motors who happened to share his middle name: Lafayette.

It was also likely a salute to Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, a Frenchman who helped America win its independence during its Revolutionary War and supposedly once said C’est la Valeur, mon che rami.

Today, if you’re looking for luxury car names that start with l, look no further than LaFayette – home of major American brands like Ferrari and Maserati.

LaSalle

The LaSalle by Cadillac was a luxury automobile produced by Cadillac from 1922 to 1929.

It was an upmarket vehicle equipped with a powerful 8-cylinder engine and sold as a more luxurious companion to Cadillac’s Sixty Special.

The first Series 150 LaSalles were unveiled in New York on October 27, 1922 and immediately went into production at Cadillac’s Detroit factory.

Lambert

The Lambert, named after American physicist Albert Abraham Lambert, was a piston-engined sport plane of unorthodox design created by Lincoln Beachey in 1916.

Beachey flew it to an altitude of 17,500 feet and it won a prize of $10,000 in a competition at Chicago’s Field Columbian Exposition held later that year.

The plane was equipped with an automobile engine but only made one flight before crashing. It never went into production.

After its brief flight, the Lambert was exhibited at fairs and auto shows around America until World War I intervened. In 1918 Robert E. Pearse adapted it as an autogyro.

Lagonda

Cars Brands That Start With L: Luxury, Sports, Expensive, and Foreign (18)

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 (L)

It also has a seven-speed automated manual transmission, which helps you keep your hands off of it on winding roads so you can enjoy its tremendous handling abilities.

Local

Having a car is one of those luxuries few people can do without. While you might be used to driving your own vehicle everywhere, cars are available at different levels of luxury.

From Lincoln to Lamborghini, Lexus to Rolls-Royce, there are plenty of choices for anyone who wants their car to set them apart from others on their daily drive through town.

Get started learning about these high-end brands in our rundown of some vehicles that start with the letter L.

Locomobile

The Locomobile was a luxury automobile built in West Springfield, Massachusetts between 1901 and 1939.

The original Locomobile Company was founded by Albert Augustus Pope. At its peak, it produced 3500 automobiles per year and was considered one of America’s preeminent luxury car makers.

The names Locomobile and Pope were synonymous; nearly all automotive historians consider any U.S.-made front-wheel-drive automobile made from 1896 to 1938 to be a Pope-Toledo.

Thereafter, production continued in England under license from Pope Manufacturing Company with different designs until 1947 when it too stopped making cars. Today, Pope-Toledo vehicles are among the most valuable on both sides of the Atlantic.

Lohner-Porsche

In 1898, a company by the name of Austro-Daimler began manufacturing automobiles in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.

By 1905 they merged with another car maker and became Austro-Daimler-Puch (ADR), later merging again in 1926 to become Daimler-Benz.

In 1958, Daimler merged with Porsche to form Mercedes-Benz. Perhaps one of its most famous models was manufactured roughly around that time period — namely, the iconic 300SL Gullwing coupe. But what about earlier?

Lozier

There are few cars whose names match their style more perfectly than Lozier. This high-end automobile was named after its founder, Charles Lozier.

An American, Lozier started in business making top-quality fire engines and then moved on to automobiles; his vehicles were renowned for their well-designed interiors.

The brand’s most celebrated model was probably The Lozier Six which sold like hotcakes during its first year of production.

Unfortunately, you can’t buy a new one these days – or any Lozie… er… that may be a good thing as almost all vintage Lozi… er, Lozyers are now worth a fortune.

So if you see one in your rearview mirror, think twice before changing lanes!

Expensive Cars That Start With L

Lamborghini, La Ferrari, Land Rover, Lexus, and others. Below are some of the most expensive luxury cars in 2015.

Owning a luxury car doesn’t mean you have to spend millions on it. You can still find some models under $50k – such as Cadillac ATS-V Coupe or BMW i8 hybrid supercar.

Summary:

Knowing what name to give your car can be tricky. It may be tempting to pick a moniker that says, This is my ride; look at me.

After all, it will undoubtedly cost you some serious money if you choose to customize your vehicle’s paint job or interior options. Instead of going for flash, take a more understated approach and pick an out-of-the-box name like Lexus or Lincoln.

These cars’ monikers inspire luxury without being flashy. To get inspired by other car names that start with L, scroll down and read through our list below! If we missed any good ones, feel free to add them in the comments section!
