Pure Green Magazine’s latest issue (volume 9) is themed family life, and I’m very happy to have a piece about life in the kitchen with my children tucked away in its pages. If you haven’t heard of Pure Green, I highly recommend heading over and taking a peek. Each issue contains thoughtful articles and beautiful photography, and there is also a blog and podcast to check out. My daughter helped me make maple oatmeal scones for a the feature.

Winter and I had a lot of fun making these maple oatmeal scones. It was one of the last recipes photographed in our previous house, so we were a bit teary-eyed when the article came out; all those memories we weren’t quite ready to recall yet. The recipe for these scones can be found here, although I used the folding technique found here to put them together. They are tasty made either way.

I wish I could bake, every time I’ve attempted it I’ve failed miserably.

That little cook is adorable – and so are these scones. I recently started to fold scones myself, must say I really like the result. Never tried maple + oatmeal in scones, I will, very soon – Thanks! 🙂

A beautiful child to feature and help with that recipe. I hear you about houses and memories. The last house I moved from had such powerful memories connected with it that it had a life of its own years after we moved from there.

I made them last night with coconut milk and cider vinegar instead of the buttermilk, and they were wonderful! So light and fluffy! What a great intro to biscuits from a UK lady. 🙂 what a beautiful young lady you have too!

I also added coconut milk to the icing as was too sweet for me, and I slipped a tablespoon of bourbon into it too… It was incredible. Thank you for the recipe. Next time I make them I will cut the butter amount to 150g and increase the coconut milk and cider vinegar mixture to compensate. Might even slip some bourbon and pecans into the dough too 🙂

So sweet! You’ll be happy to have these memories in the old house, but you’ll make even better ones in the new. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m totally jealous of that mixing bowl. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

What a darling little girl – I’d happily eat anything that she cooked up! Including these gorgeous scones – If I had to pick just one scone flavor combo, maple oat would win.

Pure Green is new to me – really interesting. Thanks for the introduction.
