When I get depressed about the state of the game's progress, checking out AlanaSP's mods makes me feel
a bit better.

Seeing Aradin all jacked up to the ceiling or some rando NPC hulked out and juiced beyond belief, you think 'Well, maybe this will all work out after all!' Heheh

I just hope they don't throw up a bunch of unecessary roadblocks and make it harder than it needs to be. I mean I know it's probably going to take a year or two after the game drops to catch up (mainly because I'm timid and fearful of busting something like a dumbass then having to reinstall everything) but hopefully they don't gate it to the point where people feel like they need a degree in computer science just to get some mods up in the mix.

I feel like mods are often the unsung heroes. Not getting paid for this stuff and yet still returning glorious work on the quickstyle, just for the love of it.

When the EA started I was really hoping there would be a bit more of a place built out, like where the home boards might play well with nexus, or integrated with the BG3 launcher (since that's the only reason I can see to have one lol) or really foster that community so that players and especially new players aren't intimidated by it. But then we're still poking around on these ancient boards here, so I don't know, I might have been pipe dreaming on that one lol. I still think they could revamp their spot here or migrate, just so BG3 has some legit boards or a home site that feels like it was built specifically for BG3. They could do a lot with that I think, you know even down to the themed avatars and whatnot to make it really feel like home.

Anyhow, yeah, just wanted to say thanks again right quick!

Alana's hair salon was my favorite/first mod to check out in BG3 heheh

It's all gonna be dependent on them removing some hard-coded things and making them editable by modders as to how far the community can push the modding scene. Because currently for my area of interest at least I'm really restricted on what I can actually achieve.

What types of things can you currently NOT do?

One of the reasons I bought the game was Larian saying before the EA they were thinking about modders while making the game and that release would have a toolset available for them. I'm hoping for as much flexibility here as possible for the widest range of potential mods. I appreciate the work you all do and I can't wait to see what you all put out once the game is live.

Off the top of my head,

UI being solely tied to variables governed by the exe, this means we can't add functionality like custom selectors and are bound to whatever larian choses to add.

Tattoos texture atlas being hardcoded so that we can't adjust the amount of tiles that are contained in the file yet we can do just that for other atlas files like icons for example.

Being unable to define texture colour channels which it supports in textures like makeup.

These are just a couple there are more while these mainly affect character creation it's the most fresh on my brain. The UI is major limiting factor tho and I kind of wish they had stuck with swf files rather than xaml.

Is there anyone who met visual glitch with drow armour?
My character is a male drow and when I wear this awesome drow chest on him - his elbows gettin' sick and jus' slidin' down. Feels not good at all, havin' this problem from patch 8

There are several visual glitches with armor, for example most helmets showing the ears of elves and half elves going through the material. But my favorite currently is the Helmet of Hast with it's funny panache, it has it's own life and can fly.

BTW what I would like as mod were the ability to influence stats. To be precise, I want shields have +4 instead of +2.

Go check the "Basket Full of Equipment". In the description, it's explained which files to download (then edit) in order to do this type of thing Modding Baldur's Gate 3 (27)

Basket Full of Equipment" SFW version mod is the only mod I use, since it's very first days, because I wanted armor without pants and later loincloths-like armor for my Barbarian. I'm not sure I would even play the game without this mod. But it does not allow you to set general stats to armor, like shields. Once there was an additional shield in the mod (I'm not sure it's still in the current version), you could give it all the + AC you wanted. But I want a change for all shields in the game, not for the player party only.

Yeah this Is a big negative. Its hard to get people to buy a game, or keep interested in playing. MODERN Forums are very very important for a game like this. This forum is near useless.

The modding community, I think, tends to hang out more over on Larian’s Discord, plus there’s the Larian Reddit too. If folk aren’t getting what they want here, then they might want to try out those options too.

Which isn’t to say that these forums aren’t built on very old software, clearly they are, or couldn’t do with an overhaul if Larian want them to play an important role in building the community round the game in future. At the moment it feels as though the focus is on Discord and Reddit, with these forums being a bit of a hangover from olden days. Which suits me, as so am I, but won’t be for everyone!

Discord killed forums because people love centralization. Why bother creating an account on a specialized forum when you can just login in into the place where you already have all your friends and stuff? If anything, NexusMod is the prime candidate for it as they pretty much have a monopoly on the modding community.

Ditching &/or delegating the forums are a bad idea. Larian should UPGRADE THE FORUMS. D&D are old school folks. A forum that's updated and eye-catching with lots of updates is more important that the instant gratification but complete lack of organization of discord.

You can DO more and organize information far better and create a more valuable, long-lasting bond with the player base on a forum. It should not be an afterthought. Its a big mistake, and its shockingly easy to update this forum.

Not everybody. Discord is horrendous at organizing game info and preserving player base comments. Its great for game play and socialization for those that wish to partake. Some gamers are not interested in that and others CANNOT use Discord because of anxiety or thousands of disabilities that you may not be aware a member of the community has.

Example: If someone asks a question on Discord, the only answer they are likely to get is whoever is on and looking at discord. Otherwise the asker is scrolling back and looking for answers among the other chatter. On a forum, all the answers are in the same thread, and more importantly you are more likely to get answers from people that play at different game times.

A well organized forum will be utilized more often than Discord and is an invaluable resource for game information and conversation. Discord cannot do or preserve this well.

Discord is great to use for in-game party chat. THAT is its strength.

I guess this is what the people want and there is no stopping it.

I don't know the first thing about coding or how involved creating some of the more complex mods that are available must be. It baffles me, though, that Larian intentionally created the engines that are used for DOS, DOS2, and Baldur's Gate III so that no real auto pausing can be supported for any of these titles. Yes, I'm able to use an external program that hacks into the game entirely, but (from my very limited understanding of it) that sort of things works very differently than something that would be created by traditional mod communities. In fact, I've requested this over the years to CS here and to the mod communities. So far, though, all have found it *impossible* to create reasonable auto pausing (or any real pausing options) for the single player experience. The *only* method that I've found to properly and fully pause any of these titles is to use a completely external program that hacks into these games.

My expectations here very likely aren't realistic at all. I'm hoping, though, that Larian chooses not to cripple their mod communities here. I hope that they have the sense and courtesy to release Baldur's Gate 3 with full console (developer) commands, a proper toolset, and will actually provide real support for their mod communities. That's just something that we haven't seen up to this point, but I'm still hopeful for it. There's no real reason that Baldur's Gate 3 shouldn't have thriving mod communities in decades to come!

It is indeed a very nice mod but beware of opening too many of the baskets at one time. The load may well crash your game.

Absolute noob question here - if I was doing a large blanket mod across multiple characters based on certain conditions (e.g. hair style), I'd have to batch convert the entire /Characters dir from LSF > LSX (with LSLib) so I can parse and index them, right?

Edit: To answer my question - yes, but the Multitool already has it built in so it's not that annoying. Not to mention lslib has batch processing too.

For people already familiar with the current tools: what are the chances to get a mod for a better camera at release?

P.S. Just to offer some context of what I'm looking for, I have a particular dislike for how unnecessarily pronounced the "perspective deformation" is with the game.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

I know that it's early, but, outside of for cosmetic use, I really haven't seen any utilities for modding here. Would creating a proper explorer and file editor here be insanely difficult to accomplish? Also, do we know what all is hard coded and will be impossible to change with this engine? I've heard that, outside of using external hacking tools, that creating real pausing options is impossible here, for example. With the proper tools, would creating a smarter AI that would do checks for the party, rather than individual characters, be possible here?

After launch, I am having very poor luck with Nexus/Vortex. Whatever the problem really is, the post-launch 'full release mod fixer' doesn't, I had to reinstall on a second ssd to get rid of the vortex/nexus splash screen that they inserted, and trying to fix it without reinstallation seems to just make things worse. Even Steam's 'verify local files' is useless this time.
