(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Today's Final Jeopardy - Friday, March 8, 2024 (1)
Yogesh Raut, a social and personality psychologist from Vancouver, Washington

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

After Ben Chan narrowly advanced to the finals yesterday, today’s game sees what I described in my preview as “the Rose Bowl semifinal”—as Minnesota’s Emily Sands takes on Washington’s David Sibley and Yogesh Raut. (Before I get lots of comments today: yes, I know Vancouver, WA is a suburb of Portland, OR, but Oregon’s in the Pac-12 as well.)

I’m expecting a very closely contested match today; all three players are very capable of taking victory, though Yogesh showed in the quarterfinal that he is capable of winning without Daily Doubles. I do think it’ll reach a point where he will need to find one—at this level, it is incredibly difficult to win on Coryat score alone.

Another reminder that I have started a Sunday mailbag column where I answer fan & viewer questions regarding the show. If you have a question, feel free to send it to mailbag@thejeopardyfan.com!

I didn’t realize that Jeopardy! could write a Tournament of Champions Final Jeopardy about the New Testament epistles without making an authorship claim!

This Final Jeopardy boils down to “Where is Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors set?”, with the New Testament side of the clue being enough to narrow down your guess if you know more about that half of the clue. I doubt it’ll be enough to keep the rage train from happening, though, from people who see red every time the Bible is even whispered on the show, even though the much more useful half of the clue is about Shakespeare. The Comedy of Errors is a well-known Shakespearean farce surrounding mistaken identity set in Ephesus, while Ephesians is one of a few epistles addressed to a group located in what is now Turkey (Colossians and Galatians are other examples).

Interestingly, Ephesus, known in antiquity as the site of the Temple of Artemis was abandoned completely by the 15th century, more than a century before The Comedy of Errors was written. The site of Ephesus is nearby the modern-day Turkish town of Selçuk.
