Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, April 25, 2023 (2024)

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the April 25, 2023, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category TV History) for Tuesday, April 25, 2023 (Season 39, Game 162):

The 1980s “Magnum, P.I.” used a soundstage of this long-running drama that had just ended, & even referred to its lead character

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Johanna Stoberock, a fiction writer & adjunct professor from Walla Walla, Washington
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, April 25, 2023 (1)
Ian Marquand, a retired broadcaster & state medical board executive from Los Angeles, California
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, April 25, 2023 (2)
Dillon Hupp, a development director from North Little Rock, Arkansas (1-day total: $21,999)
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, April 25, 2023 (3)

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Arkansas’ Dillon Hupp is your new champion after a strong game yesterday; however, there was a lot to be desired in terms of Daily Double hunting overall; Dillon went to the top row of the board with a Daily Double still out seven different times yesterday. Doing more to keep the Daily Doubles to himself will be crucial for putting together a long run. Today’s challengers are Walla Walla fiction writer & adjunct professor Johanna Stoberock and L.A. retired broadcaster Ian Marquand.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

When Hawaii Five-O was canceled in 1980, CBS didn’t want to let the Hawaii Film Studio go to waste; thus, Magnum, P.I. was also filmed there; in at least one occasion during the Tom Selleck series, “Detective McGarrett” was used as an alias. (Steve McGarrett was the fictional protagonist of Hawaii Five-O.)

I would normally say that this is the sort of Final Jeopardy! clue that plays easier for the home audience—many at home would have watched both of those shows—but I expect at least one challenger today, if not two, to get this correct.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • The Final Jeopardy! betting today was generally strategically sound, even though Johanna made a math error. Ian was essentially covering Dillon, and Dillon was protecting against a possibility that Ian might not cover.
  • With regards to clue selection: People are going to play the game the way they want to. That doesn’t make them any less of a person. (And I’m sure that Sarah was still feeling frustrated in the studio that the players finished STATESMEN & WOMEN even though the Daily Double was already found).
  • Today’s box score: April 25, 2023 Box Score.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Johanna $15,600 Ian $11,600 Dillon $10,600)

Dillon: While Ian can’t both win a Double Stumper with Johanna and cover you, you’re probably best playing for a Triple Stumper here. Limit your bet to $2,599. If not, go all in to force Ian to cover you. (Actual bet: $10,600)

Ian: You’re in what is known as Stratton’s Dilemma—you can’t both cover Dillon and win a Double Stumper with Johanna. Either go all-in, or bet $1,601 (covering Dillon’s small range). (Actual bet: $11,000)

Johanna: Standard cover bet over Ian is $7,601. (Actual bet: $8,601)
