Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

4-time champion Matthew Marcus goes for victory number five today against Becky Molder and Dan Wohl.

If you have friends in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially any trans or non-binary friends, the last week or so has been difficult for them, and the next few days will continue to be difficult for them; the amount of hatred on the Internet towards them in the form of people openly trolling them (over Hogwarts Legacy) is disgusting. Even allies are being showered in hate from trolls. Please check in on your friends to make sure they’re doing okay.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Not only is Aachen generally the first German city alphabetically, but it’s also the westernmost city in Germany—which explains why, on October 21, 1944, it was the first German city to be liberated by the Allies during World War II. Aachen Cathedral, which had been consecrated in 805, was damaged during this period, but the basic structure of the cathedral survived; Charlemagne was buried at the cathedral in 814.

Matthew once spent 76 hours on a Greyhound bus.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Friendly reminder that the show has much better audio than anyone has at home; if they believe a contestant pronounced a response properly, then it means it happened, and that we’re missing something at home.
  • $20,000 is the highest Coryat score in the “Sky’s the Limit” era for a player locked out before Final.
  • With regard to the Palmolive Building clue: The clue said “to play on”. The show clearly stated it was making a play on words. It was not a direct quote. There was no mistake in the clue.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.
