Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

After surviving a Double Stumper Final Jeopardy from second place, Alison Betts will attempt to become the 275th five-time champion in the game’s post-1984 history today! However, Vidya Ravella and Jeff Plate hope they can prevent that from happening.

It should be noted that, similarly to yesterday (and a couple of days last week) KIMT (the CBS affiliate in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa) will be airing Jeopardy! at 9:30 AM Central (10:30 AM Eastern) due to UEFA Champions League coverage this afternoon.

Franklin Roosevelt, who himself had been diagnosed with polio in the 1920s, founded the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, commonly known then and known today as the March of Dimes (after entertainer Eddie Cantor gave it that nickname, playing on the newsreels known as The March of Time). After Cantor suggested that Americans mail a dime to the White House, the mail room was deluged, as over 2.6 million dimes arrived.

Funds raised by the March of Dimes funded polio vaccines that helped to mostly eradicate the disease, after which the organization changed its mission to prevent birth defects and infant mortality.
